Out Of Control Most Frequently Asked Questions

Below are all of the questions we could remember having been asked in the past. If you have a question that's not on here, please feel free to email outofcontrol@alivenetwork.com or call our agent, Alive Network, on 01782 740839.

How much space do you need?

One of the advantages of hiring Out of Control band is that we are able to set up in spaces considered too small for larger events bands. Anything from 15ft x 8ft upwards will suit us, and we don’t need a stage (though if your venue provides one we’ll happily set up on it).

How is it best to time things?

7.30pm-8pm – Light background music 8pm-8.45pm – DJ set
8.45pm-9pm – Cut cake, photos, first dance
9pm – 10pm – First band set
10pm – 11pm – DJ set
11pm-12am – 2nd band set

Can I pick the bands playlist?

You can choose which songs you don't want to hear.

Where will you travel to?

Though we are based in the West Midlands, we’re happy to perform throughout England and Wales and also internationally via special request.

Can I see you play live?

Out of Control perform up to 95 bookings per year, ranging from birthday parties and wedding receptions to business functions, and as such these are private functions.

Will you learn our special song?

Absolutely! We regularly learn requests at no extra charge. This can be a popular song or a song specific to your evening. As professional musicians we pride ourselves on being able to learn a wide variety of songs, including requests you may not expect a live band to perform! Once you have hired us, just ask!

Is the video on your website a true reflection of the band?

We like to think so! We’re 100% live - don’t use cheesy backing tracks or autotuning. With more than one vocalist in the band we’re, able to create a very full sound and we also utilise modern guitar pedal technology to achieve an amazingly varied texture of music.

How do I book you?

Check a date and make an enquiry, or call our agents / visit our agent's website and book us from there.

Are you able to DJ in between sets?

We provide a manned DJ service as standard. All of our DJ music is beatmatched and crossfaded, just like a professional DJ and uses our sound and lighting system for full effect. With around 20,000 songs to choose from, almost any request can be played.

Can we make DJ requests in advance to my event?

Of course; the more the merrier!

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

You’re welcome to use our sound system and microphone for speeches and announcements throughout the night. For an additional charge we will arrive early, set up our sound system and provide a microphone especially for your speeches. For wedding receptions, we can even provide background music for your meal.

What equipment do you use?

Our top-of-the-range equipment is suitable for events of up to 1000 guests and is perfect for anything from small venues and marquees through to conference rooms and town halls. We provide all backline (instruments, amplifiers, drum kit), microphones and monitors for the band, and a sound system featuring top and sub speakers for maximum clarity. All of the equipment is compact so that your guests will have plenty or room to dance.

Do you have lights?

Our lighting system is designed to light not just the performance area but the whole room, and our club-style effects lighting also encourages guests onto the dance floor.

How long do you play for?

Our full live show extends to 2 hours, in segments spread throughout the night, though we’re happy to be as flexible as possible. We are happy to play for longer for an additional fee.

What time do you start and finish?

We can start anytime you like really, but usually we arrive at your venue at 6pm and ome on stage at 8:30pm.

We then play 2 hours of live music split into 2 x 60mins or 3 x 40mins ending at midnight or 1am.

How long do you take to set up?

Though set up and soundcheck can take around 90 minutes, we can provide DJ music approximately 10 minutes after access to the performance room.

Can I provisionally book you?

Unfortunately, we don’t take provisional bookings as our demand is such that we would be turning clients away on popular dates. However, when you make an official enquiry with us, your enquiry will be logged in our system and you will be given first refusal on your date should anybody else enquire for the same date.

What if the band split up before my event?

We take our band very seriously, as it our main source of income. However, in the very unlikely event the band splits - Alive Network will supply the next best band available.

Can my sisters/bosses/daughters dog sing with your band?

If you pre-arrange it with us, yes. Otherwise, no sorry! It can really ruin the flow of the performance to have someone howling out of tune and makes us look bad too!

What will the band wear?

We usually dress formally for most parties (trousers, shirt and tie) unless informal attire is requested. In the past, we’ve also been asked to join in with an events theme, which we’re more than happy to do if you wish. Please check out our photo gallery for an idea of our typical wedding attire.

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?

Our equipment is all PAT tested & we have PLI up to £10 million - ask our agents to supply you with this if required by your venue).
